On Friday, May 30, our Grade 5 students proudly presented their culminating Primary Years Programme (PYP) Exhibition—an inspiring morning that celebrated the power of student-led inquiry, collaboration, and action.
As the final experience in the IB Primary Years Programme, the Exhibition gave students a meaningful opportunity to showcase the knowledge, skills, and attitudes they have developed throughout their Elmwood journey. Guided by the UN Sustainable Development Goals, each student group selected real-world issues they are passionate about—from the impact of fast fashion and pollution to gender equality and space exploration.
Through the inquiry process, students developed their own Central Ideas and Lines of Inquiry to shape and guide their research. They worked collaboratively to investigate complex global topics, ask meaningful questions, and present their learning in creative and compelling ways. Their exhibits included written work, models, videos, presentations, and interactive displays—each one reflecting deep thinking and authentic engagement.
Importantly, each project also included an element of action. From awareness campaigns to fundraising and advocacy, the students found meaningful ways to connect their learning to the world around them and make a difference in both our school and wider community.
Congratulations to our Grade 5 students for their thoughtful, passionate, and purpose-driven work, and a heartfelt thank you to the many teachers who supported students as mentors along the way. A special recognition goes to Ms. Jenika Alvarez and Ms. Alli MacDougall, whose expert guidance and dedication brought the entire experience to life.
The PYP Exhibition stands as a powerful reminder of what our students can achieve when they are empowered to explore, collaborate, and take action. We are so proud of each and every one of them.
