In early June, a group of enthusiastic Elmwood students and two dedicated faculty members set off on a ten-day educational adventure across France and Spain! It was an unforgettable journey full of discovery, culture, connection, and laughter. From the winding streets of Paris to the sun-drenched beaches of Barcelona and the art-filled boulevards of Madrid, every day offered new experiences and deepened their global perspective.
The trip began in the heart of Paris, where students explored iconic landmarks like Notre-Dame Cathedral and the Louvre, participated in a perfume-making workshop at Fragonard, and admired the sweeping views from Montmartre. Guided tours brought the history and stories of the City of Light to life, while evenings were filled with shared meals and joyful reflections. A highlight for many was the optional excursion to Versailles, an awe-inspiring glimpse into the opulence of French royal life.

From there, the group boarded a high-speed train to Barcelona, where Gaudí’s genius set the tone for a city bursting with creativity and colour. Students were captivated by the whimsical mosaics of Park Güell, the towering spires of Sagrada Família, and the rhythm of everyday life in Catalonia. A bike tour and an afternoon at the beach provided the perfect balance of learning and leisure, while a traditional fideuà dinner and optional Flamenco show immersed the group in Spanish culture.
The journey concluded in Madrid, Spain’s elegant and energetic capital. There, students experienced world-class art at the Prado Museum, explored the historic centre on foot, and enjoyed a day trip to the culturally rich city of Toledo. From paella to plazas, the final days of the trip were filled with warmth, reflection, and a growing sense of independence and confidence.

Throughout the trip, students demonstrated curiosity, kindness, and engagement. They asked thoughtful questions, embraced new experiences with open minds, and supported one another with maturity and enthusiasm. Whether navigating bustling metros or sampling unfamiliar foods, they approached each moment with positivity and a genuine eagerness to learn. It was, by every measure, a true embodiment of Elmwood’s goal of nurturing global citizens who lead with empathy, integrity, and purpose.
Of course, none of this would have been possible without the extraordinary leadership of Mme Sutherland and Ms Fischer. Their care, guidance, and passion for global learning shaped each day of the trip, creating a safe and joyful environment where every student felt seen, supported, and inspired. Their presence set the tone for a trip defined by connection, curiosity, and community.
And while Mme C could not be with us in person, she was very much present in spirit. Her photo made appearances across France and Spain!
This journey was more than a travel opportunity—it was a transformative experience. Students returned not only with new knowledge but with new confidence and a renewed sense of possibility. Lifted and unstoppable, indeed.
