ELMWOOD HOSTS – TEDX "UNSTOPPABLE"

by Saba K., Grade 12 Student

As of June 1, 2025, I officially became a TEDx speaker. Although this was not my first experience in the field of oracy, it was a very special event. Similar to many of my peers, I grew up watching TED-Ed videos. Somewhere along the line, the TED-Ed videos I watched that involved riddles and mythology led to my discovery of TEDx Talks. After watching knowledgeable experts, passionate activists, and talented storytellers, I developed a dream of one day sharing my own experience on that circular red carpet.

Coming back to Elmwood after successfully delivering my speech, I was inspired to dream big once again. I wanted to provide our Elmwood community with the same opportunity to stand on that red carpet and present their ideas worth sharing. I entered Mrs. Schindler’s office with an idea, and we both decided to make it a reality. We started off the process by applying for a TEDx licence. Once we received our licence, our marathon of preparation began. From selecting speakers to going over filming specifications with Mr. Perreault, our careful deliberation was the key to our success.

Although we had done our best to design the space, what really made the space feel inspirational were our talented speakers. Thank you so much to Ali, Sofia, Claire, and Raluca for your incredible words. Your dedication to learning, growth, and having the courage to share your ideas makes you truly unstoppable. Thank you to Mrs. Schindler, Mr. Perreault and the tech crew, and all those who made this event possible. You all make big ideas feel attainable.

Truly, everyone involved in helping with this event fully embodied our theme by being Unstoppable.
