ELMWOOD CELEBRATES PRIDE WEEK - PRIDE IN JANUARY

Elmwood’s Equity Council recently hosted Pride Week, a celebration of inclusivity, learning, and community. While Pride Month typically takes place in June, the Equity Council chose to hold the event in January for a few key reasons. With June being a busy and often stressful time for students, it was difficult to dedicate the energy needed for a meaningful celebration. Additionally, students felt that a burst of joy and color would be a welcome lift during the grey winter months.

Throughout the week, students participated in homeroom activities exploring LGBTQ+ history in Canada, learning about prominent LGBTQ+ figures, and testing their knowledge in a Kahoot! Quiz. As part of a school-wide initiative, Middle and Senior School students also collaborated on a Pride Flag Mosaic, featuring personal messages of pride, encouragement, and reflection.

On Rainbow Civvies Day, students showed their support by wearing bright, colorful outfits, creating a vibrant display of school spirit. The Pride Flag Mosaic will soon be unveiled outside the Learning Commons, serving as a powerful symbol of Elmwood’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.

A huge thank you to the Equity Council for organizing this incredible week, and to all students who participated in making it such a meaningful celebration!
