Welcome to the Student Handbook

This handbook serves as a guide to Elmwood’s expectations for student conduct and community engagement. Grounded in our core values—a love of learning, curiosity and open-mindedness, kindness and collaboration, and honesty and accountability—these expectations reflect our shared commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and empowering environment where every student can thrive.

At Elmwood, a love of learning is at the heart of all we do. We believe that learning should be joyful, purposeful, and lifelong. Students are encouraged to approach each day with enthusiasm, to seek understanding, and to celebrate discovery in every form.

We nurture curiosity and open-mindedness as essential qualities of thoughtful, engaged learners. Asking questions, exploring diverse perspectives, and remaining open to new ideas help students deepen their understanding and grow into adaptable, globally minded citizens.

Kindness and collaboration shape how we learn and live together. We expect students to treat others with compassion, respect, and generosity of spirit. Working together, listening actively, and supporting one another’s growth fosters a sense of belonging and shared responsibility.

We also uphold honesty and accountability as the foundation of our community’s trust. We ask all students to act with integrity, take ownership of their actions, and make choices that reflect care for themselves and others. Academic honesty, respectful communication, and personal responsibility are non-negotiable parts of the Elmwood experience.

These values are more than aspirations—they are lived daily in classrooms, hallways, and beyond. As students and families engage with this handbook, we invite you to reflect on how your choices and contributions help shape a school culture defined by possibility, purpose, and pride. Together, we will continue to create a learning environment where every student feels lifted and unstoppable.

Elmwood's Student Success Centre is the place to go for all your academic support needs! From Success Studios, Elmwood Edge Tutoring, Success Coaching, Learn to Learn, Early Intervention Planning, Exam Prep, and more  Ms. Fraser and the Student Success team have you covered. 

Elmwood Edge Tutoring

Elmwood offers a tutoring program with specialized content experts, set during school hours for ease of scheduling. Parents can access this program if they feel their child needs academic support for any reason, be it learning gaps from transferring to a new school, perhaps your child is neurodivergent and requires one on one assistance, an IB exam, or they just need some help grasping difficult concepts. No matter the reason, Elmwood Edge provides excellent support, and there is always communication between tutors, teachers, and parents about the students' progress.
