The Elmwood Parents’ Association is responsible for organizing many of the community-building events and activities throughout the year.  While COVID-19 health and safety protocols have limited what we are able to do, we have already seen some very innovative events, including New Parent Coffee Mornings and the Turkey Trot!

The first Parent Association General Meeting, hosted by Parent Association Chair Julie Petit, was held on Tuesday, November 17, with parents, new and returning, joining across grades.

Ms. Petit outlined the key volunteer opportunities, which include:

  • Class Parents: The Class Parents are a key link between the parent community and the school. Ideally, we have one representative per class/homeroom/grade. These parents are a helpful resource to new families, organize class-level activities and help promote school-wide activities to other parents.

  • Events: Virtual or outdoor, events that bring parents together are so important. While plans for in-person events such as Gala are still being developed, events like the New Parent Coffee Mornings earlier this year were a tremendous success.Volunteers in this area are involved in all aspects of planning and executing an event.

  • Uniform Shop: The Uniform Shop is a key service for current families and an important “on-boarding” step for new families. Volunteers assist with responding to emails, conducting virtual shopping sessions, fulfilling orders, and managing consignment and used items.

  • Décor: If you have a flair for decorating, we may have a job for you! While COVID-19 safety measures have significantly limited our ability to add seasonal decor items to the school, we are hopeful that there will be some opportunities in the Spring.

  • General: Because we are a school grounded in innovation and collaboration, there is no shortage of new ideas and ways to get involved. If you have a specific interest, skill or qualification, we want to hear it!

If you are interested in hearing more about the Parent Association and volunteer opportunities or have an idea to share, please complete the Volunteer All Call form. All are welcome– especially new parents!  This is a great way to meet the other families that make up our very special community.
