MEET THE COMMUNITY - TORY WOODHEAD

Tell us about your new role and what you are most excited about.

I am one of two marketing and communications specialists who joined the team this October. The role entails control of social media marketing, administrative tasks, event planning, and copywriting, among a multitude of other responsibilities. The thing that I am most excited about being in my new role is getting to return to the Elmwood community. Being an alum, it's so nice to come back to the environment and to get to make my mark on Elmwood once again.

What experience (work or otherwise) has best prepared you for this role?

I have a Bachelor of Arts Honours from Queen’s University, majoring in both philosophy and political studies, which included an obscene amount of writing, making the ‘communications’ part of my job almost second nature at this point. I also was an editor of a political journal in my time at Queen’s, so the attention to detail and writing ability gained from that have also helped in my job. Lastly, I worked for the government (CRTC) in a policy analysis role for 2.5 years, further strengthening all of my aforementioned skills.

What is your favourite thing about Elmwood?

The students! They are so funny, intelligent, and insightful, and are what makes the Elmwood community so unique!

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received, and from whom?

My mum always says that nobody makes it through this life all alone, so we all have a duty to help as many people as we can.

If you could choose one superpower to have, what would it be?  How would you best use it?

Invisibility. I could get into any event and fly everywhere my heart desires without having to pay. I’d also love to know what people say and do when they think nobody is around.

Which word or phrase do you use most often?

'I'm so cold".

What is one thing that would surprise people about you?

I hate all cold drinks, everything must be room temperature or warmer.

What is your favourite extravagance?

Travel or a massage.

What is your favourite way to treat yourself?

Going out for dinner with friends and getting my nails done.

What has impressed you most about the start of this year?

The creativity and energy of all the staff and students! You can really feel how passionate and determined everyone is to succeed when you walk down the halls. It's an environment that inspires collaboration and ingenuity.
