MEET THE COMMUNITY: CAROLE HAWLEY

Tell us about your role at Elmwood.

I am the Supervisor in the Prekindergarten classroom at Elmwood. The PreK programme is licensed by the Ministry of Education so we adhere to licensing requirements in addition to following the philosophy and curriculum of Elmwood School.  I work with the PreK team to provide a quality and engaging programme for our youngest learners. I love their natural curiosity and enthusiasm towards learning!

What is your favourite thing about Elmwood?

The Elmwood Community is truly amazing. There is a strong sense of belonging and commitment within Elmwood School. Our students are enthusiastic about learning, the families are supportive, and the staff are dedicated to their students and colleagues. I am truly thrilled to be part of the Elmwood Community.

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received, and from whom?

Treat others as you would like to be treated. It’s a family rule!

If you could choose one superpower to have, what would it be?  How would you best use it?

I wish I had Samantha Stephens powers from “ Bewitched”.  I could “snap” my fingers and have a variety of magical powers.  I would visit family in Winnipeg and Toronto. I could “snap my fingers” and have my meals magically appear or my housework done!

Which word or phrase do you use most often?

We can do hard things!

What is one thing that would surprise people about you?

I participated in the Mud Girl Obstacle Race. Together with a team of close friends, I endured the mud (and there was lots of it) and a 17+ obstacle courses to complete the 5km run. It was a feeling of triumph, empowerment and lots of fun and laughs!

What is your favourite way to treat yourself?

I enjoy a good Spa Day! A day of relaxation, specialized treatments and a good book!

What has impressed you most about the start of this year?

We are all together again! It is just so wonderful to see our students and staff back to in-person learning!
