While the Middle and Senior School students were away at Camp Elmwood, the Junior School students had full reign of the campus.
On Wednesday, September 13, students in the Junior School got to participate in the Terry Fox run around the Elmwood campus and surrounding neighbourhood. Organized by Ms. Jenika Alvarez and Ms. Alli MacDougall, the run included all students from pre-kindergarten to grade 5 and required students to run or walk non-stop for 35 minutes.
Students from Ms. Meadowcroft's grade 3 class gave the Junior School students a short presentation before they set off running, telling students the story behind Terry Fox and how his act of courage changed the world. They also emphasized how Terry, in his mission to raise money for cancer research, exhibited the IB Learner traits they are studying in class, such as open-mindedness, compassion, and balance.
After the Terry Fox run, Junior School students had a picnic lunch on the field to recharge before their busy afternoon. By 1:00 p.m., it was time for the Junior School students to embark on their very first House Games of the year. The House events included team tag, blue block building, parachute games, and a chalk art contest.
