This past Tuesday, Elmwood hosted the annual Future Leader's Conference. This year's FLC was themed "Leadership through Diversity" and offerred middle school students a dynamic, immersive opportunity to develop inclusive leadership skills. This day-long student-run event, which was designed to deepen each students' understanding of diversity as a cornerstone of effective leadership, was a huge success!

Throughout the conference, students participated in a series of workshops focused on collaboration and teamwork. These workshops were designed to challenge participants, enhance their teamwork skills and expand their perspectives. Keynote speakers Anthony Johnson and Dr. James Makokis, who shattered conventional norms as the first-ever Two-Spirit team on the Amazing Race Canada, spoke to students about the importance of inclusivity and representation. They also hosted smaller workshops centred around how to be a leader of change and activism.

Elmwood would like to thank everyone who made this event possible. Anthony Johnson and Dr. James Makokis for their incredible insight and powerful message. School Captain Danya Hakeem for her demonstrative leadership in designing and organizing the 2024 FLC. All those who participated, not just from Elmwood, but from Fernhill and St. Laurent Academy as well.
