Parents' Association

When you give your time to the school, everyone benefits: the children, the teachers, the school—and you. Volunteering is a wonderful way to contribute to the life of the school and to meet other parents and members of the Elmwood community. Volunteering also gives you the opportunity to learn more about Elmwood, and the day-to-day workings of the school. And it sends a wonderful message to your daughter about your interest in and commitment to her school life.

There are many opportunities to get involved. The Elmwood Parents’ Association organizes community building events and fundraising activities throughout the year.

Whether you have a little time or a lot, a specific skill or general interest in helping, we would be happy for your help!

Parents' Association Volunteer Initiatives for 2018-19

Welcome Back Festival

The first event on the school calendar, this event is a “welcome” to new families and “welcome back” to returning families.  Bring the whole family and enjoy delicious food from the Elmwood Bistro and house games to get the Elmwood spirit juices flowing!  Volunteers plan and execute all aspects of this event.

2018 Event Date: September 5, 2018

Holly Tea and Marketplace

Embrace the festive season with Old Girls, students, families and neighbours for afternoon tea, featuring treats from the Elmwood Bistro, live music and a very special guest (Ho! Ho! Ho!). The Marketplace features a variety of vendors and artisans with demonstrations and items for sale, including holly, poinsettias, centrepieces, jewellery, crafts, clothing and delectable treats. The perfect kick-off to the holiday season! Volunteers plan and execute all aspects of this event.

2018 Event Date:  December 1, 2018

Father Daughter Ball

One of the favourite nights on the Elmwood calendar, this is a very special dinner and dance for girls from Grade 6-12 and their fathers. The themes from past years have included “Flights of Fancy,” “Mad Hatter’s Tea Party” and “Enchantment Under the Sea.” Volunteers plan and execute all aspects of this event.

2018 Event Date: February 2, 2019

Staff Appreciation Luncheon

An end-of-year thank you from parents, this is one of the most anticipated events of the calendar for teachers and staff. Organized by volunteers, this pot-luck features delectable treats made by families and served in a lovely luncheon in the Auditorium.

Uniform Shop

The Uniform Shop carries all Elmwood School uniform pieces to make sure our “girls in green” are dressed for success. Volunteers ensure the shop is organized and that inventory levels are adequate and assist with fittings.

2018 Uniform Shop Hours: Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:30 – 9:30 a.m. and by appointment

The Pound

What this volunteer initiative lacks in glamour it makes up for in importance! The Pound is Elmwood’s Lost and Found where items that are misplaced or left behind are stored until they can be matched with their rightful owner. Organization and regular clearance days are key to success!

Junior School Library

The Junior School Library is a favourite room for our youngest students. Volunteers ensure books are organized and re-shelved so they are easily accessed by teachers and students alike.
