FAQs

Below is a list of the questions most commonly asked by new families about the culture of philanthropy at Elmwood School.  Should you have any other questions, we would be happy to discuss them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I receive an income tax receipt for my contribution?

Yes, Elmwood School is a registered charitable organization (#10729-9513RR0001). Your receipt will be sent to you by mail.

Are Elmwood families required to give?

The final decision about giving to Elmwood rests completely with you. We do hope you’ll consider your daughter’s school one of your charities of choice. Our primary goal is to reach 100% participation from our parents—with all donation amounts gratefully accepted. The average Elmwood Fund gift size from parents is approximately $1,000 (and range from $10 to over $10,000), with monthly payments a convenient way of spreading the donation over a period of time.

Will my contribution of $25 or $50 really make a difference?

Yes! We value every gift. Every donation helps us reach our 100% parent participation goal and demonstrates your commitment to the School. We are also pleased to list all of our parent donors in the fall issue of our school magazine, The Elmwood Emblem.

Should I give if I receive financial assistance?

Even though many families make financial sacrifices to provide their children with an Elmwood education, it is still important for every member of our parent community to participate in our Elmwood Fund appeal at some level. Every gift does matter and every gift does make a difference. Support of the Elmwood Fund demonstrates your commitment to our mission.

Can I designate my United Way donation to Elmwood?

Yes. You simply provide your employer with the School’s Charitable Registration Number (#10729-9513RR0001) and request that your United Way gift be designated to Elmwood School. We ask that you notify us of your designation so that we can acknowledge your support.

Can I make a multi-year pledge and spread out my payments?

Yes, this is especially common for parents that have chosen to support a specific item that can only be purchased as part of a more significant commitment. You may choose a 3- to 5-year pledge period and we will recognize your donation immediately for the full pledged amount.

How will my gift be recognized?

There are several opportunities to recognize our donors. All donors, regardless of their donation amount, will be listed in the fall issue of our school magazine, The Elmwood Emblem. Donors who have contributed $5,000 or more cumulatively will have their names permanently listed on our Donor Wall as members of our Pactum Serva Society, located in the atrium of the senior school. We also hold our annual Pactum Serva Dinner for those who have donated $1000 or more. Separate naming and dedication opportunities are available for larger fundraising initiatives such as dedicating a classroom or endowment fund in honour of your family.

Who do I contact if I still have questions?
