Elmwood’s vision is to be the most innovative girls’ school in Canada and to operate at the forefront of girls’ education globally. Now, more than ever, women are at the centre of the social, political and economic dialogue, acting with courage and integrity in the face of challenge and leading change.
Below is a list of the questions most commonly asked by new families about the culture of philanthropy at Elmwood School. Should you have any other questions, we would be happy to discuss them.
- Will I receive an income tax receipt for my contribution?
- Are Elmwood families required to give?
- Will my contribution of $25 or $50 really make a difference?
- Should I give if I receive financial assistance?
- Can I designate my United Way donation to Elmwood?
- Can I make a multi-year pledge and spread out my payments?
- How will my gift be recognized?
- Who do I contact if I still have questions?
The final decision about giving to Elmwood rests completely with you. We do hope you’ll consider your daughter’s school one of your charities of choice. Our primary goal is to reach 100% participation from our parents—with all donation amounts gratefully accepted. The average Elmwood Fund gift size from parents is approximately $1,000 (and range from $10 to over $10,000), with monthly payments a convenient way of spreading the donation over a period of time.
Even though many families make financial sacrifices to provide their children with an Elmwood education, it is still important for every member of our parent community to participate in our Elmwood Fund appeal at some level. Every gift does matter and every gift does make a difference. Support of the Elmwood Fund demonstrates your commitment to our mission.
There are several opportunities to recognize our donors. All donors, regardless of their donation amount, will be listed in the fall issue of our school magazine, The Elmwood Emblem. Donors who have contributed $5,000 or more cumulatively will have their names permanently listed on our Donor Wall as members of our Pactum Serva Society, located in the atrium of the senior school. We also hold our annual Pactum Serva Dinner for those who have donated $1000 or more. Separate naming and dedication opportunities are available for larger fundraising initiatives such as dedicating a classroom or endowment fund in honour of your family.
