Middle/Senior School Director of Music (full-time, permanent position, starting September 2017)

Elmwood School is one of Canada’s leading independent day schools for girls from preschool through Grade 12. Founded in 1915, Elmwood is the first fully accredited girls’ school in North America to offer the full International Baccalaureate Programme from preschool through to university entrance. It is also an Apple Distinguished School. Elmwood offers a dynamic learning environment, renowned for its academic rigour and exciting co-curricular opportunities.

We are seeking applications from dedicated, innovative Grade 6 – 12 music teachers who can lead a thriving music program. The successful candidate will have a strong academic background with the ability to develop and deliver innovative and comprehensive programming that meets the learning needs of all students. Experience in an International Baccalaureate School and in an all-girls’ learning environment would be an asset, though not essential. Qualifications and Skills:

  • A gifted, dynamic educator with an excellent rapport with students
  • A strong academic background, possessing a Bachelor of Music or equivalent
  • Qualified to teach Grade 6 – 12 music
  • Energetic, dedicated team player
  • Experience directing and developing successful concert bands at all levels
  • Able to teach reed, brass and percussion instruments as well as vocal music
  • The ability to teach jazz would be of benefit but is not essential
  • Able to instruct music in a technology-rich environment
  • Possess a rich performance background
  • Commitment to contribute to Elmwood’s co-curricular program
  • An understanding of the benefits of an all-girls’ learning environment
  • Ontario College of Teachers Certification, or eligibility for teacher certification in Ontario

Communications Coordinator – Maternity Leave (July 2017 – August 2018)

Working as part of the Advancement team, the Communications Coordinator will help execute programs which enhance the visibility and public perception of the School, and organize activities, events and media campaigns to support the admission, marketing, and development objectives of the School.

Qualifications Include:

  • Completion of secondary school with a minimum of 2 years related experience
  • Strong spoken and written communications skills in English
  • Vigilant and detail-oriented in editing, proofreading, and data entry
  • E-marketing and social media management experience
  • Experience using web analytics and social media monitoring/measurement tools
  • Experience in content creation and a strong understanding of the effectiveness and appropriateness of story assets (text, images, audio, video) and how to combine them.
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Powerpoint) and WordPress.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop and InDesign) and Hubspot
  • Working knowledge of intermediate-to-advanced-level equipment (DSLR and video camera) and comfort in photo and video editing
  • Well organized, flexible and capable of multi-tasking
  • Self-motivated, energetic, creative
  • Ability to work well on your own and work effectively as a team player

Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide communications support for Elmwood marketing and fundraising initiatives and summer/march break camps
  • Copywriting and design of communications and marketing materials such as brochures, event posters, presentations etc.
  • Photography and videography of classroom activities and special events
  • Prepare content for website and social media accounts
  • Maintain website, including regularly updating online calendar
  • Prepare weekly message including blog posts and email message
  • Provide proofreading/editing support of all communications
  • Assist in the development of a yearly communications/marketing plan and goals
  • Assist in the writing and production of the school magazine including reaching out to alumnae for updates
  • Coordinate advertisements with local newspapers
  • Assist in event preparation and execution by designing invitations, programs, slideshows, etc.
  • Attend special events as required.

Assets to this Position:

  • Experience in an educational setting and not-for-profit environment
  • Knowledge of Hubspot, Senior Systems, Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress
