Summer Skills Academy Instructors
Grades 2 – 10

Elmwood School, one of Canada’s premier girls’ schools, provides an outstanding education to students from pre-school through Grade 12. An IB World School, Elmwood is located in Ottawa. Elmwood’s mission is to inspire each girl to reach her full potential. The School is looking for expert educators qualified in primary and/or secondary divisions to participate in its innovative Summer Skills Academy 2018 camps program.

Instructors in Elmwood School’s Summer Skills Academy are inspirational educators and have a proven track record of teaching excellence. Elmwood’s Summer Skills Academy offers exceptional activities for girls age 6 – 16 with a focus on experiential learning and dynamic programming. Our summer program provides a range of academic, arts, sports and STEM camps, which run for ten weeks from June 18 to August 24, 2018. Summer camp programs are usually five days in length, with flexibility as to which week(s) and whether it is a half-day or full-day program.

Expectations for this position include:

·      Teacher education training (B.Ed., M.Ed.), completed or in progress
·      Ontario College of Teachers qualification (or equivalent) an asset
·      Previous camp experience as a counsellor or instructor an asset
·      Collaborative, flexible and enthusiastic team player
·      Dynamic and creative instructional skills
·      A proven ability to have a caring rapport with students

As a Summer Skills Academy instructor, you will be working under the guidance of Elmwood’s Director of Co-Curricular Learning. All camps take place on Elmwood School’s campus and training will be provided.

Early Childhood Educator

Elmwood School is an International Baccalaureate World School for girls from pre-school to Grade 12. Located in central Ottawa, Elmwood School has been educating young women for over 100 years. Elmwood’s experienced and dedicated faculty work as a team to provide a dynamic and secure learning environment, and they are committed to excellence in all that they do.

This ECE position will involve working in with young children from ages 3 to 6 under the supervision of the kindergarten teaching staff.  A high degree of energy and patience is required to work with these exuberant young learners on a daily basis. The successful candidate will be in direct contact with the students from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in a variety of support roles including small group work, individual student assistance, and regular duty supervision.

Qualifications:

  • Early Childhood Education Certificate
  • Valid first aid certificate
  • Criminal record check (vulnerable sector)

Experience:

Minimum 2 years experience working with 3 to 6 year olds in a pre-school or school setting

Camp Counsellors: Elmwood March Break and Summer Camps for Girls

Elmwood School is looking for talented, energetic and enthusiastic counsellors to join our dynamic March Break and Summer Camps team. Our program offers Discovery Camps for girls from 4 – 12 years of age.

Under the supervision of the Director of Co-curricular Learning, camp counsellors work with a team of counsellors and volunteers to ensure an enjoyable, enriching and safe experience for all campers. This position requires an excellent track record of working with children and proven leadership skills.

Specific responsibilities:
1. Work with the camps team to plan, prepare and deliver a dynamic, enriching program of activities, both fun and academic, built around the weekly theme
2. Work with a team of counsellors and volunteers to ensure that the highest standard of experience, care and safety for campers is maintained at all times
3. Maintain excellent communication with camp families

Skill requirements: Loves working with children, strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, patient and kind, sense of humour, excellent verbal and written communication, strong customer service ethic, proven track record of good organizational and time management skills

Qualifications: This is an ideal position for a qualified teacher or person with teacher training, particularly in early childhood education. This would also be of interest to someone with experience working as a camp counsellor or youth leader.  The successful candidate will also require up-to-date First Aid, CPR training and a criminal records check.

Hours of work: This is a full-time position from Monday to Friday (37.5 hours per week) from March 12 – 16, 2018 and/or from June 18 – August 24, 2018 (10 weeks).
