Civics and Citizenship (CHV20) provides opportunities for students to investigate issues of civic importance, the roles of different levels of government in addressing these issues, and how people’s beliefs and values affect their positions on these issues. Students will analyze the roles, responsibilities, and influence of citizens in a democratic society and explore ways in which people can make a difference in the various communities to which they belong. Civics and Citizenship introduces students to the political inquiry process and the concepts of political thinking. Students will use this process as they gather, interpret, and analyze data and information relating to issues of civic importance. This is a compulsory OSSD half-credit course for all Grade 10 students.

Career Studies (GLC20) teaches students how to develop and achieve personal goals for future learning, work, and community involvement. Students will assess their interests, skills, and characteristics and investigate current economic and workplace trends, work opportunities, and ways to search for work. The course explores postsecondary learning and career options, prepares students for managing work and life transitions, and helps students focus on their goals through the development of a career plan. This is a compulsory OSSD half-credit course for all Grade 10 students.
