About the Camps

Discovery Camps: Girls 4 - 12

Discover new challenges, develop lasting friendships and enjoy a rich range of hands-on activities at the finest summer camp program in Ottawa!  Led by experienced educators and offering weekly themes, Elmwood's exciting Discovery Camps provide the perfect blend of learning, active play and creative exploration!

A Typical Week

Each week there is a unique theme with new knowledge and skills to acquire, and an exciting off-site excursion or special guest visit. Our campers can enjoy workshops with a nationally known artist, build and control a robot, attend a workshop at the National Gallery and learn how to use DNA to solve a crime.

Every camp ends with Friday Fun Day – an exhibition or show for the girls to display what they have accomplished throughout the week. For example, at the end of our Dance Camp, the girls will perform their moves for you in Elmwood’s historic auditorium.

and Sign-out

You are asked to sign your child in and out each day. This allows us to track your child’s attendance and for security reasons to make sure that we know who has picked them up at the end of the day.

Late Pick-up

We understand that parents and caregivers are occasionally unavoidably delayed. However, we ask that you make every effort to collect your daughter on time. A late fee of $20 will automatically be charged for late pick up.

Nut Awareness

Elmwood School is a nut-free environment. We do not provide any foods that contain nuts and nut products and we ask that families refrain from sending foods with nut products to camp.

Staff training regarding life-threatening allergies ensures a proactive approach to food safety. Our staff are CPR and First Aid trained so that they will respond appropriately should there be an anaphylactic reaction.

Lost and Found

Two important things to note regarding children’s belongings – first, more are lost than found, and second, if it can get lost, it will! At least twice a week, please take a look in the Lost and Found tub so see if you spot something that you were not aware was missing. Also, to make the process easier, please label your child’s belongings clearly.

Despite our best efforts to return lost articles to their owners during the summer, there are always, inevitably, several bags of Lost and Found at the end of the season. It continues to be our policy to make every attempt to return any labelled clothing at the end of the summer. You will be contacted by email if we have found something belonging to you and it will be kept in the Junior School Office for collection.

After September 7, all unclaimed lost and found items will be donated to a local charity.

Camper to Counsellor Ratios

Camper to counsellor ratios as are follows:

Kinder Camp – 10:1

Junior Camp – 15:1

Senior Camp – 15:1

Please note – camper to counsellor ratios are reduced for off-site excursions.

Most groups will have at least one helper.

Cancellation Policy

It is extremely rare that a camp is cancelled due to low participation, however, if in the unlikely event a camp is cancelled, your fees will be fully refunded.

We understand that there may be an occasion that you need to cancel your daughters’ registration prior to the start of Camp. If cancellation occurs more than 7 days prior to the start of her Camp, you have the following options:

  1. Credit note. You can receive a credit note for your full amount paid with no administration fee. This credit note allows you to register in an Elmwood School Camp at a future date this summer or next. Your credit note will expire on August 28, 2020. Your camp credit is transferable to any person and may be used for any Elmwood School Camp.
  2. Refund, less the $50 administration fee.
  3. For Elmwood students, your refund (less the $50 administration fee) can be applied to your daughter’s Student Account.

Cancellations within 7 days of the start of camp will not be refunded. Cancellations at any time due to adequate medical reasons will be fully refunded if a doctor’s note is provided. No refunds will be issued for children asked to leave camp due to behavioral issues.
