Why Choose Elmwood?
Elmwood is recognized as one of the most innovative girls’ schools in North America and ranked as one of the top 25 private schools in Canada. Acclaimed for its academic excellence, commitment to innovation, caring atmosphere and strong community spirit, Elmwood is a school where girls are encouraged to stretch themselves, try new things, create and explore.
All Girls Education
Research shows that in an all-girls environment, girls tend to take more risks, are more comfortable with making mistakes, and are more engaged in their learning.
At Elmwood, girls take on all leadership roles, explore non-traditional courses, and act as role models for their peers. Rather than the experience being about the absence of boys, it is about the presence of girls. Academically, this girl-centric environment leads to an unparalleled number of Elmwood graduates going on to study STEM subjects in university. In addition, girls are free to be themselves, and to grow and mature in a nurturing environment where they feel supported and safe.
We believe that this is one of the most significant reasons why Elmwood students transform into young women ready to take on the world and challenge the status quo.
When compared to coeducational counterparts, female graduates of single-sex high schools show:
- Stronger academic orientations
- Stronger predisposition towards co-curricular engagement
- More confidence in mathematical ability and computer skills
- Measurably more self-confidence in public speaking
- Raise their hand and engage in class discussion more often
