Scholarships

Elmwood is committed to attracting exceptional girls with unique qualities through our merit-based scholarship program. We realize, however, that identifying talent isn’t a simple process. That’s why we’ve designed our scholarship process to allow us to get to know our candidates, learn about their current achievements, and help us assess their potential for future academic success and how they might contribute to school life. Margaret White was the Headmistress of Elmwood School from 1982 to 1990. In her memory, her family generously endowed an annual scholarship to be awarded to a deserving student that exemplifies the Elmwood spirit.

Each year the Margaret White High School Entrance Scholarship is awarded to a promising student entering Grade 9 who demonstrates academic excellence, leadership, and extra-curricular and community involvement. The scholarship has a value of $5,000 per year for four years. Please contact our admissions team to learn more about the scholarship application process. 

We believe that one of the main things that makes Elmwood such a great place to learn and grow is the diverse makeup of our community. That’s why we’re dedicated to reaching out to exceptional students from diverse backgrounds. Needs-based scholarships allow us to offer the advantages of an Elmwood education to girls who show promise, regardless of their family’s economic situation. These scholarships are awarded according to need (not scholastic or other special gifts), but successful applicants must satisfy the school’s entry requirements and work to capacity while at the school.  The Middle Years Programme Internal Scholarship is awarded each year to a promising, returning student upon entering Grade 8. To apply for this 3-year scholarship, a student must demonstrate how they are developing in the traits of the IB Learner Profile. This means demonstrating their contributions to school life and academics as well as how they exemplify the characteristics embedded in the Learner Profile traits of knowledgeable, principled, open-minded, risk-taker, caring, reflective, inquirer, communicator, balanced and thinker.

The Senior School Arts Internal Scholarship is awarded each year to a promising, returning student entering Grade 10. To apply for this 3-year scholarship, a student must demonstrate how they are contributing to Arts either in or outside of school and how they are pursuing study of the arts within their courses/co-curriculars. The area of the Arts encompasses a wide variety of disciplines such as literary arts, music, drama, visual art, photography, dance and ceramics. 

The Senior School STEM Internal Scholarship is awarded each year to a promising, returning student entering Grade 10. To apply for this 3-year scholarship, a student must demonstrate their passion for and their contributions to science, technology and/or engineering. This can be both in and outside of school, through both coursework and/or co-curricular activities. The area of STEM encompasses a wide variety of disciplines such as general science, biology, chemistry, physics, design, robotics, engineering and coding.
 

The Senior School Service & Action Internal Scholarship is awarded to a promising, returning student entering Grade 10. To apply for this 3-year scholarship, a student must demonstrate their passion for and their contributions to service and/or action. The service contributions can either be in or outside of the school. 

The area of Service and Action encompasses a range of activities such as community service, awareness raising, fundraising, action research, advocacy, social justice work and social entrepreneurship.
 

The Sarah Black Rowing Scholarship is awarded to annually to three (3) students in Grades 9–12.  Sarah Black ‘07 began her rowing career at Elmwood and went on to row at university, represent Canada at multiple World Rowing Championships, and most recently won the Rowing Canada Coach of the Year award.  She is an inspiring role model for our rowers. The scholarship in her name will be awarded to those who embody passion, commitment and promise to the advancement of the Elmwood School Rowing Program.
