Middle and Senior School applicants are required to sit down for a written entrance assessment covering reading, writing and math.
Date and time: Saturday, November 16, 2019
Please be at the school at 8:45 a.m. The assessment will begin at 9 a.m. and will end by 12 p.m.
Location: Elmwood School Library
Please enter through the Student Entrance (side door of the main building just off the parking lot). There will be signs to direct you once you arrive.
What to bring: Please bring a pen and a calculator. We will provide you with paper, pencils, a protractor and a ruler. You may also bring a water bottle. We will provide students with drinks and a snack at the mid-morning break.
What test will be given: The CAT-3 (Canadian Achievement Test) will be administered as our Entrance Assessment. The CAT is a national standardized test, which consists of objective questions answered in a multiple choice format. We focus primarily on English Comprehension, English Language and Mathematics. Students will also be asked to write an English composition as part of the entrance exam.
How to prepare for the exam: Get a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast and do your best to relax! Students do not need to study. These tests are not assessed as a pass or fail. Test scores help to indicate strengths and weaknesses in reading, language and mathematics. Remember that no one is expected to know everything!
