Athletics

From Kindergarten all the way up to Grade 12, we encourage our girls to participate in sports and physical activity to promote good health, build self-esteem and learn important values such as leadership and team spirit. Elmwood’s athletics programme offers opportunities for all students, whether they are fierce competitors or just like to play for fun.

Our Physical and Health Education department offers a number of innovative and interesting activities as part of the curriculum, including self-defense, taekwondo, yoga, pilates and a student favourite—an indoor ropes and rock climbing course. Physical and Health Education Canada has awarded our programme the Quality Physical Education Award consistently since 1988.

Girls at Elmwood enjoy playing a multitude of sports, including rugby, soccer, volleyball and badminton, to name just a few. The Elmwood Eagles compete at local, regional and provincial levels, and our weekly intramural House Games allow students an opportunity to try out many different activities. Senior School students participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Programme—a progressively challenging, globally recognized personal development program which complements academics with outdoor activities such as winter camping, dogsledding and orienteering.
