Winterim
Tuesday January 24
and Wednesday, January 25, 2012
Winterim is a new, two-day event in January 2012 when Elmwood’s dedicated faculty will offer an exciting array of programmes that involve students in learning through direct experience. This concept lies at the heart of experiential education, a philosophy and methodology in which educators purposefully engage with learners in direct experience and focused reflection in order to increase knowledge, develop skills and clarify values. At Elmwood, we believe that experiential education is a vital element of inspiring each girl to reach her full potential. During Winterim, each student in Grades 3-12 will participate in an intensive, enriching, small-group activity that will take her beyond the boundaries of the regular curriculum and allow her to explore her creative, intellectual or leadership potential. Research on 21st century learning has shown that a student’s intellectual capacity is enhanced by engaging in experiential activities.
Elmwood’s Winterim programme will also encourage deeper, more intense faculty-student relationships as the girls and their teachers participate in intensive learning opportunities and discover that learning is not restricted to classrooms and textbooks.
