The Good Actresses of Elmwood

Wednesday April 06

Directed by Elmwood’s own Mrs. Angela Boychuk, and ably acted by members of Elmwood Theatre (including Dr. Mahin and Mrs. Naufal Moffatt!), The Good Person of Setzuan was “epic theatre” at its best!

This new adaptation of Bertolt Brecht’s play by American director, Tony Kushner is set in an imaginary city of China. The acclaimed piece features three gods, a colourful group of motley characters (both good and not so good) and a young woman, played by the talented Erin Chapman, who must resort to a male disguise in order to withstand the ragged people who set out to distract her from her desire to ‘do good deeds.’

Cappies reviewer, Siobhan Fleury, said "In a display of togetherness and professionalism, Elmwood School's interpretation of The Good Person of Setzuan was both poignant and inspired."

"The young company of players achieved the true meaning of a ‘creative ensemble’. With each performance they aspired to reach new heights so that by closing night, their artistry emanated passionately across the footlights. I believe Bertolt Brecht would have been very pleased with the final representation of his work!" added Mrs. Boychuk.

Congratulations to everyone involved!
