Superb Storyteller

Elmwood Grade 5 student Ava Mierins was honoured earlier this year in a nation-wide writing competition. Her myth, entitled “Fire in the Sky: The Story of the Chega” was recognized by Hazel Hutchins, a Canadian author, for best original story written by a student aged 6 – 12.

Elmwood Grade 4 teacher, Nicola Powadiuk said "Ava's story about the mythical Chega—part cheetah, part dragon—was both compelling and incredibly creative. I was thrilled to hear she had been recognized in this fashion and am very proud of her accomplishments."
