She shoots, she scores - Elmwood students key members of local hockey teams
Thursday April 30Ottawa, April 30, 2009 – Hockey has been exploding in popularity among girls in the Ottawa area and Elmwood students Hanna S. and Daron R. are helping to lead the on-ice rush.
Hanna and Daron led their teams to gold and silver medals respectively at the Ontario Women's Hockey Association Provincial Championships held April 17 – 19 in the Greater Toronto Area.
Hanna, a left-winger for the Ottawa Ice (Peewee BB) has played competitive hockey for six years, while Daron, an assistant captain who plays defence with the Kanata Rangers (Peewee AA) has played competitively for seven.
This is the second year that both girls' teams have competed at the provincial tournament—the Ottawa Ice winning gold out of a 14 team bracket; Kanata Rangers taking home silver out of 16.
"No matter what age, league or level you are in, the Provincial's experience is worth it!" said Daron.
