Mathematics Competition Success

Thursday June 24

For the second year, students from Elmwood's Primary and Middle Years Programmes volunteered to participate in the Mathematica Centrum Mathematics Competition, a challenging, Canada-wide contest. In 2010, approximately 65,000 students participated from across the country.

Top scorers for Grades 4, 5 and 6
(L to R) Eva Sabine, Gr 4 top score; Brooke Mierins, Gr 6 top score; MiYen Ho, Gr 5 top score)

Mathematica Centrum prepares a different exam for each grade level, each one named after a famous mathematician. Grade 4 students sit the Byron-Germain contest, and this year Elmwood student Eva Sabine not only received the medal for the top score in her class, but she also made it onto the National Hounour Roll. Joining her on the National Honour Roll was Grade 4 classmate Kai Eckford-Vea. Elmwood congratulates both girls on their fine achievement.

Congratulations are also due to MiYen Ho (Grade 5), who received the medal for the top score in her class on the Fibonacci Contest, and to Brooke Mierins (Grade 6), who was the top scoring medal recipient for her class on the Pythagoras Contest.

We are very proud of all of the Elmwood students who participated in the Mathematica Centrum Competition for 2010!
