Math is magical at Elmwood’s Junior School
Wednesday February 18Ottawa , February 18, 2009 – Elmwood’s Junior School students were very excited to meet Dr. Yossi Elran, Professor of Mathematics at the Weizmann Institute in Israel. His “Math Magic” presentation was full of amazing and enlightening math tricks, and the girls eagerly took part in discovering the secrets of mathematics.
Several Elmwood students participate in the Weizmann Institute's “Math By Mail” enrichment programme, receiving complex math challenges six times a year via email and sending their solutions to the Weizmann Institute for feedback and dialogue with the professors. A number of them were recognized for their achievements in the program. Up next, girls in Grades 4 and 5 will be taking part in the North American Fibonacci Contest, held in April.
