About Elmwood Theatre
Elmwood Theatre sets out to provide young actors with the practical and artistic experience of mounting a full-fledged production, as well as to instill in them a confidence in their own ability to express themselves, and a life-long passion for the arts.
Every year Elmwood Theatre involves up to fifty students on-stage and behind the scenes, featuring both International and Canadian scripts. The plays are carefully selected, always with the goal that the students, in the end, will take ownership of their own artistic endeavors.
Over the years students have acquired a practical, theoretical and historical knowledge of international traditions and ideas related to theatre. Some of these have included the effectiveness and beauty of Indonesian Shadow Puppetry; the plight of children caught in situations of war and poverty, or suffering from physical disability or abuse, as well as the courage, imagination and heroism of women who seek to enrich their lives by means of their own strengths and resources.
About The Cappies
The Cappies "Critics and Awards Program" is a program through which high school theatre and journalism students are trained as critics, attend shows at other schools, write reviews, and publish those reviews in local newspapers.
Canada's Capital Cappies, the program that made Cappies international, includes 34 schools from the National Capital region.
