Elmwood Students Meet Lesotho’s King Letsie III

Thursday December 17

On the morning of Tuesday, December 1st, the leaders of Elmwood's Amnesty Help Lesotho Club went to Turnbull School. They were accompanied by club supervisor Ms. Moses and Headmistress, Mrs. Boughton. Many were gathered in the school’s auditorium in anticipation of the arrival of King Letsie III. With a parade of flag holders and African drummers, the King walked up to his chair on stage. The assembly was beautiful; many speeches were given about Help Lesotho by students, sponsors, as well as Dr Peg Herbert, the founder of Help Lesotho. As a special treat, the King brought a video from Lesotho of children singing their national anthem. After the assembly concluded, the Elmwood group was invited to meet the King himself in the library and ask him questions about his country, as well as let him know what kind of fundraising our school takes part in. As the group who gathered in the library was much smaller than that of the assembly, the students were able to have more of an intimate conversation with the King. It was obvious how much he loved youth and what they have to say. Overall the morning was quite successful and very exciting—everyone enjoyed the time with his Majesty!
