Elmwood students help make wishes come true
Friday January 16Ottawa, January 16, 2009 – Wishes came true for five local children battling life-threatening diseases who dined with Ottawa Senators Mike Fisher and Luke Richardson at Fratelli’s restaurant today.
The idea was the brainchild of Elmwood School students Lauren and Courtney, whose family won the Senators luncheon tickets for 10 via a draw at the school.
While the family was free to invite anyone, Lauren and Courtney suggested sharing this opportunity with others facing tougher odds. Their mother, Anna Liberta contacted the Children’s Wish Foundation, who put the family in contact with five children wishing to meet Ottawa Senators players.
“Seeing a smile on their faces is a picture I will never forget,” said Ms. Liberta.
“We thought it was a good idea to invite other kids who may never get this chance,” said Lauren and Courtney.
While the two girls helped wishes come true for others, what they took from the experience was even more valuable.
“Meeting Emmerson, Lauren, Hillary, Chelsea and Niall was an amazing experience. They’re all so brave and inspire us to try things we might shy away from,” said Lauren and Courtney.
“We’ll never forget meeting them.”
