Elmwood Senior Choir places first at Kiwanis Festival
Tuesday April 21Ottawa, April 21, 2009 – Elmwood's Senior Choir placed first at the Ottawa Kiwanis Music Festival, achieving silver standard in the Treble Chorus Secondary School Board Senior Division, held at Woodroffe United Church.
The 19 member choir performed two songs—a challenging Renaissance piece, "Come Let us with a Joyful Song" and the gospel spiritual "Can I Ride?"
"I am extremely gratified by the enthusiasm and commitment displayed by our girls," said Choir Director Evelyn Pike.
"The choir has lovely tone, phrasing and gave a spirited performance," commented Choral Adjudicator Timothy Shantz.
A number of Elmwood students also participated in individual events. Special mention goes to Grade 8 student Tannya C., who won three gold, one silver and one bronze in various piano competitions.
