Monday September 29World Issues class learns how news is manufactured
Ottawa, September 29, 2008 – Elmwood School Grade 11 and 12 Canadian and World Issues students get an inside look at CBC Ottawa studios Monday, learning how news is manufactured and who decides what stories make it to the airwaves.
The Grade 11 and 12 class has been studying how to critically look at media and gain an understanding of how and why stories are presented for public consumption. The field trip will also expose students to careers in journalism.
Agenda for visit:
- 9am: Attend morning story meeting; reporters, producers, editors pitch ideas for day’s newscasts.
- 9:45am: Join Laurence Wall, CBC Radio afternoon show news reader and Carleton University instructor. Discussion about news, story selection, why some items make it to air over others.
- 10:30am: Meet with local and national reporters; question and answer period.
