Elmwood Eagles Recognized with Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation Volunteer Awards

The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation – Ontario Region announced the winners of its 2011 Volunteer Awards at a ceremony in Toronto on Sunday, April 17. The awards recognize exceptional volunteers including individuals, teams and organizations that are leading the way and helping the Foundation build a future without breast cancer.

Canada AM co-host and Ontario Region Honorary Chair Beverly Thomson announced the winners at Toronto’s Fairmont Royal York. The Elmwood Eagles team was honoured with two awards: the Top Fundraiser Award – School, and the Youth Volunteer Award.

Emcee Beverly Thomson, Headmistress Cheryl Boughton, Nina Kozlowska, Taylor Cuconato and Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation – Ontario Region board member Christy Teasdale.  

Elmwood has participated in Run for the Cure for 10 years and has raised over $187,500 for the Foundation. In 2010, Elmwood School’s Run for the Cure team had 223 members and raised an extraordinary $43,800 through fundraising events, such as Pink Accessory Day, Change for the Cure and a school-wide BBQ.

“It’s wonderful to be recognized for our contribution to this cause that is so dear to our hearts,” says Cheryl Boughton, Headmistress, Elmwood School. “My congratulations to all the students, staff and parents who work together to raise funds and awareness every year.”

Elmwood School has a proud tradition of philanthropy. In addition to Run for the Cure, the School also supports many local, national and international organizations through fundraising and volunteer efforts.
