Great independent schools are not built by tuition fees alone. They are characterised by a culture of giving in the spirit of ‘paying it forward’ to future generations. That’s why we turn to our supportive community of alumnae, parents, staff, and friends to contribute to our fundraising campaigns—the generosity of our community makes our school stronger.
Donations go a long way in helping us fulfill our mission: inspiring each girl to reach her full potential. From recruiting new teachers to supporting Elmwood Theatre, from bursaries to athletic uniforms, from books to classroom technology, gifts to the school help us provide a vibrant educational atmosphere that fosters success.
As we celebrate our past and present, and prepare for our future, the stage is set for this year to be a transformational one for Elmwood School.
From the very beginning, Elmwood School has benefited from the generosity of those who believe in its mission—donations have made a difference to generations of girls in green. At Elmwood, we encourage girls who want to change the world to become the women who do. Your gift to the Centennial Campaign will make an immediate and enduring impact on our girls and their school.
Elmwood School raises 95% of its operating budget from student fees and, in the proud philanthropic tradition of independent schools, we are grateful to our community of families, alumnae, faculty and friends for their assistance in helping us reach our full financial goal. Additional funds help us invest in the initiatives that allow us to continue to innovate and excel, and maintain our leadership position nationally and internationally.
We take our role as responsible stewards of the investment our families make in their daughters’ education very seriously. Thank you for your support.
Centennial Campaign Initiatives
1. Sundial Plaza: A beautifully landscaped plaza that will connect the Elmwood of today to its history, with the inclusion of a replica of the historic sundial that was a gathering point for girls for many years.
2. 21st-century Classroom Transformation: We’ll continue to create active, flexible 21st-century educational environments that enhance learning and teaching.
3. Early Years Playground Revitalization: A brand new playground will be developed, leveraging the latest research and best practices in early years education and providing girls with opportunities for exploring, risk-taking, fine and gross motor development and imaginary play.
4. Fitness Trail Development: This project will feature eco-friendly, open-air equipment that encourages outdoor physical activity and open-air training.
5. Centennial Bursary Program: We believe that diversity of all kinds—including economic—enriches our school and the educational experience of all our girls.
6. Centennial Master Plan: This plan will provide a tangible roadmap to support the priorities and outcomes outlined in the Strategic Plan 2015 – 2020 and will guide the School’s focus and investment in the coming years.

As alumnae, parents, grandparents, faculty and friends, you have already made lasting contributions to Elmwood, and for that we are so thankful. In planning for your future and that of your loved ones, we hope that you will consider making another lasting investment in our school through Planned Giving – gifts through bequests, life insurance and gifts of stock.
Contributions may also be endowed in perpetuity and support the area of the donor’s choice – whether it be a family named endowment fund to support a financial needs student or to support a specific program.
Endowed funds of $25,000 and greater may be named in honour of a loved one or the donor’s family. Please contact the Advancement Office for more information about these unique giving opportunities.
From time to time, Elmwood School may undertake major fundraising initiatives such as new facilities, major renovations, program development or building of our endowment fund.
A Corporate Partner Program is also available to a maximum of six, industry exclusive Partners, providing an opportunity to associate their corporate brand with Elmwood events as well as print and web presence.
Generally, contributions made to these initiatives are pledged over a 3-5 year period.

Every year we hold a gala for the Elmwood community. It’s a very special night that’s only made possible with the help of corporate partners, event sponsors, donors, and our guests. Most importantly, it supports the programs that make Elmwood such a great place to learn and grow.
Save the Date for the Centennial Gala: Saturday, April 16, 2016
Guests at the 2015 Gala stepped into a whimsically lush garden and experienced the heady rush of a spring-filled evening of elegant dining, superb auction items, and live entertainment by The Digs. Thank you to all who attended, bid on our exciting auction items, and volunteered to help make this event a real success! A special thanks to Gala Chair, Nancy Greenley, as well as the members of the Gala Committee!
