Meet the Students
Shea T.
“The girls here are really close, and everyone knows everyone. I’m also close with my teachers and they really encourage me.”
Grade 7 student Shea T. is an outgoing, energetic and inspiring Elmwood girl. Both in the classroom and out, Shea is not afraid to take on challenges, and strive to reach her goals.
Shea came to Elmwood in Grade 4 and is thriving in the nurturing, friendly environment. “The girls here are really close, and everyone knows everyone,” Shea said. “I’m also close with my teachers and they really encourage me.” She particularly enjoys studying Math and Art. An excellent student, Shea earned a merit pin for the 2008-2009 school year, awarded to those with a minimum 85% average. Her goal is to achieve that distinction again this year.
The range of activities that are offered at Elmwood and the opportunities to take on leadership roles here are of great importance to Shea. She has been a member of the soccer, basketball and volleyball teams in the past, is on the rugby team and also played a role in the Middle School Musical this year.
In addition, as the lead organizer of Epilepsy Week events at Elmwood, Shea took on a big responsibility, and managed it with panache! Inspired by her mom’s epilepsy diagnosis, she brainstormed with her friends and her mom about what events she could put on at the school. Purple-themed events, including a civvies day and an extremely successful BeaverTail sale were highlights of the week. Shea also did a presentation during assembly about epilepsy and basic first aid that was incredibly informative and inspired her fellow students to take part in the week’s festivities. Outside of her school life, Shea has also excelled. A competitive figure skater since she was 9, Shea’s dedication and hard work really showed as she placed third in Eastern Ontario and ninth at the Ontario Winter Games earlier this year. She looks forward to continuing to practice and compete, and counts Joannie Rochette as one of her role models.
With her enthusiasm, tenacity and spirit, Shea is certain to go far in life!
